Beginning Oct. 2, 2026, Michigan is changing how youth employment permits are completed.

The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) is launching a new statewide Youth Employment Permit Portal. As part of this change, local school districts will no longer issue youth employment permits.

Students will no longer need to visit the Sparta High School office to obtain or complete a work permit. Instead, students and employers will complete the process directly through the new online portal.

Families with students who are currently working or planning to begin a job are encouraged to become familiar with the new process.
